MA in Education and Democracy (University of Leeds)

The Centre for Citizenship and Human Rights Education (CCHRE) was established in 2004 and is based within the School of Education at the University of Leeds. It serves as a focus for research, consultancy and postgraduate studies relating to citizenship and human rights education.
We are particularly interested in issues of ethnic diversity and race
equality, children's rights and policy-orientated research. The Centre
Director is Professor Audrey Osler who joined the University of Leeds in May 2004.

The CCHRE launched a new interdisciplinary MA in the area of Human Rights and Citizenship Education. The MA in Education and Democracy is a product of the cooperation between the School of Education and the School of Politics and International Studies (POLIS) and will commence in the new academic year. It is an innovative programme designed for graduate students and experienced professionals internationally, who are interested in education for democratic citizenship.
The programme aims to:
* Offer students an opportunity to explore contemporary
educational and political challenges in a changing world;
* Examine human rights principles as an underpinning for
citizenship at local, national and international levels;
* Develop knowledge and skills at the interface of education and
politics;
* Develop knowledge and skills relevant to careers in
inter-governmental organizations, non-governmental organizations and
related fields.
Further information about the new course can be found on the CCHRE web
site ( www.leeds.ac.uk/cchre ) and on the web site of the School of
Education ( www.education.leeds.ac.uk ).
